NUMBER SYSTEM

EXCERCISE 1.1

Q1. Is zero a rational number? Can you write it in the form of p/q, where p and q are integers and q is not equal to 0?
answer: yes 0 is a rational number. example:0/2,0/3,0/4etc.
Q2.Find six rational numbers between 3 and 4?
answer: there can be infintely many rational numbers between 3 and 4 . To find these numbers we have to find the numbers in which the denominator of both the number are same and the numerator are those numbers which on dividing with denominator and give result as 3 and 4
hence six rtional numbers between 24/8 and 32/8 are 24/8, 25/8 26/8 27/8 28/8 29/8 30/8 and 31/8.
Q3.Find six rational numbers between 3/5 and 4/5.
answer: 3/5 and 4/5
since the denominatoe of both numbers are same. So,to get five numbers between 3/5 and 4/5 we have to multiply both side numenator and denominator by 5
3/5*5/5=15/25 and 4/5*5/5=20/25
so five rational numbers between 15/20 and 20/25 are 15/25, 16/25, 17/25, 18/25 ,and 19/25.
Q4. state whether the following statements are true or false . Give reason for your answers
(i) Every natural number is a whole number.
answer: True
Reason: whole numbers are those numbers which are starts from 0 and natural numbers are those numbers which starts from 1 . so every natural number is whole number.
(ii)Every integers is a whole number.
answer: False
Reason: Integers can be negative but whole numbers are never negative for example:-2 is an integer whereas it is not a whole number.
(iii)Every rational number is a whole number.
answer: False
Reason: Rational numbers are in fraction in the form of p/q whereas whole numbers are never in the form of fraction.
